How big does my backing need to be?

Backing needs to be four (4”) inches larger on all sides. Add 4 inches to each side, for example if your quilt top is 60”X70” please ensure that your backing is at least 68”X78”. If your backing is NOT the right size, I may be able to make it work for an additional fee, or it may not be quiltable at all. If your quilt uses minky, see the next FAQ.

Can I use minky or cuddle backing?

Absolutely! To make minky/cuddle work, please add 5″ inches on all sides, 10” inches total for width and length, see above.

Is batting included?

80/20 batting, thread, and a fresh needle is included in the price of every quilt. I want you to be confident that a new needle is always used and not worry about add-on charges.

What kind of batting do you use?

I use Hobbs 80/20 quilt batting. It is the perfect blend of natural cotton and synthetic fibers to provide your quilt with a soft, durable, and easy-to-use batting. This batting is made up of 80% natural cotton and 20% polyester, which combines the softness and breathability of cotton with the strength and resilience of polyester.

Do you have any different thread options?

I currently offer a multitude of Omni thread choices. Omni is a strong, bright, poly-wrapped poly core thread that is extremely durable. I love to help match colors and know that the right thread can take your project to another level.

Do you do custom quilting?

I currently provide edge to edge quilting services which is the most economical. I can also quilt semi-custom designs which means I can quilt the border (or borders) separately with an edge to edge design for the main part of the quilt. Email me a picture of your quilt with overall dimensions (quiltingbynicole@gmail.com) and I will set up a call with you to explain the process and associated costs so you can decide how you want it finished.

Tell me about your machine binding!

Machine binding is available for $0.25 per linear inch. I recommend providing your own fabric for binding to achieve the look you love—just send enough, and I will cut and piece it for you. Please do not pre-cut binding strips, as I prefer to cut and piece the binding myself. Additionally, I do not roll excess backing over to create binding and do not use satin fabric, due to its long-term durability and difficulty to work with.

What machines do you use?

I am proud to quilt on an Amara 20″ longarm machine made by Handi Quilter on a 12′ frame. I am confident you’ll love the precision quilting.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

Not usually. Orders over $75 get free return shipping. Once I receive your quilt, it will be done within 2 weeks, packaged, and shipped back (with insurance) to you. My friends in Alaska and Hawaii do have a $15 shipping charge. It is safe, simple, and fast. What are you waiting for? Send me your quilt and I will get it done!
